or small tree; leaves opposite, once-pinnately compound, odd-pinnate;
leaflets ovate-elliptic, base obtuse, margin toothed, apex acute-acuminate;
inflorescence a terminal panicle; corolla with a long tube and
5 lobes, yellow; anthers and stigma included within the floral
tube; fruit an elongate capsule.
Standley (1930), citing Valdez, notes that decoctions of leaves and flowers have been used in baths to treat dropsy (excessive fluid retention). The bark has been used as a diuretic. Listed as an important source of pollen and/or nectar for bees (Souza Novello 1981, Suarez Molina 1981).
