Etymology of Gastridium:
Gk. gaster = belly; -idion = diminutive; referring to the basally swollen glumes.
Etymology of phleoides:
From the Greek ‘phle’ / ‘phloos?’ meaning ‘bark?’; and the Greek ‘oides’ / ‘oides’ meaning ‘in the form of’.
