Work underway on third floor of new Tac-Cawla housing blockWork is continuing on the new block of social housing in the Tac-Cawla area of Victoria, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has said.

In a Facebook post the Minister said that the third floor is currently being built.

Minister Camilleri said he was “committed to the fact that early next year we will not only release the construction, but start with the finishings so that another eight Gozitan families can be helped who are in need.”

The controversial regeneration project was started in the summer, with the Minister saying then that it would be the “modernisation of public space and an increase in social housing.”

According to PN, residents of Tac-Cawla had said that they wanted the project stopped and accessibility improved for the existing area and had in fact submitted a petition to the Prime Minister in May.

In May, the Gozo Minister advised that “this holistic project would be carried out on an area of land of 3,750 square metres where 330 square meters, or rather less than 9% of the existing space will only be dedicated to social housing.”

The Minister added that, “the rest of the space, that of three acres, will be generated as explained in the project with a playing field, outdoor gyms, recreational area with water features as well as extensive landscaping.”

In addition, this project would also be addressing the need to modernise and enlarge the existing football pitch by 150 square metres to 850 square metres so that it can be used better both for training sessions by the Victoria Hotspurs as well as the area’s residents, the Minister had said.
