Finishing on Tac-Cawla social housing block to start in JanuaryFinishing is expected to begin in the new year on the new block of social housing in the Tac-Cawla area of Victoria, the Ministry for Gozo has said.

The controversial regeneration project, which resulted in a petition by the residents to put a stop to it, was started in the summer, with the Minister saying then that it would be the “modernisation of public space and an increase in social housing.”

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, during a visit to the €1.2 million project announced that by the end of the year the construction work on the block of 8 apartments will be finished to eventually start finishing work.

The Minister said that “the project is being built on an area of land of 3,750 square metres where 330 square meters, or rather less than 9% of the existing space will only be dedicated to social housing.”

The Minister explained that “through this project not only will social housing be increased for the people themselves but a nicer space will be provided for everyone.”

The rest of the space, that of three acres, is being generated with a playing field, outdoor gyms, a recreational area with water features as well as extensive landscaping and a new lighting system.

The existing football pitch is also being modernised and enlarged by 150 square metres to 850 square metres, he said.
