Over 240 photovoltaic panels installed at Tac-Cawla housing estateThe Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, visited the Tac-Cawla housing estate this morning, where more than 240 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roofs of the apartment blocks.

It is estimated that combined, the photovoltaic panels will generate around 104,000 units of electricity per year, equivalent to the consumption of 28 families, "therefore contributing fully to the vision of eco-Gozo," the Minister said.

Dr Refalo added that "this is another project that meets the criteria of environmental sustainability while addressing the socio-economic needs of the residents of this housing estate."

The Minister reiterated that the project will also further improve the quality of life of the Tac-Cawla residents.

This project uses a micro-inverter system to control each individual panel. This ensures that if one panel has a system failure, it does not affect the whole system.

Dr Refalo said that "the quality of life in Gozo continues to improve through continuous investment in education, the environment, economic development, and social progress."

The Minister concluded by saying that this project will help to achieve the objectives of the Government by the year 2020, that 10% of the generation of electricity consumed is generated from renewable sources such as sun and wind.
