About Ficus Microcarpa
Did you know that all plants in the Ficus genus produce figs? In fact, the word Ficus quite literally means figs! Even cooler, all figs are pollinated by tiny wasps that use the fruits as a safe place to raise their young. š Ficus plants also contain latex which emerges as a milky sap when twigs are broken. This latex makes them toxic, so be sure to keep a close eye out if you have children or pets!

Hi, my plant is losing leaves and new growth branches are dieback. Repotted with organic bonsai soil recently plus added a layer of moss on top of soil. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ty #Ficus

Weird spots on my new plantās leaves I got this ficus in a pretty rough shape because I felt very sorry for her. She had some root rot and was barely in the soil. Her leaves were kind of weird and the trunk and branches were very dry. I promptly eliminated the rotten roots and put her in a new pot with bonsai soil and some volcanic stone for acidity and good drainage. Yesterday I looked at her and her leaves were still a bit weird. And thatās when I discovered this in a couple of leaves. Does anyone know what this is?

Leaves look burnt to a crisp #Ficus #FicusGinseng #Trees so I recently repotted this guy, as he was still in the original plastic from Loweās. I used potting soil and a terracotta pot with drainage. It looked fine and within a day, maybe two, the leaves started to turn brown. Like āburnt to a crispā kind of brown! Any ideas? Iām going to try watering now but it was still extremely moist when I planted it in the new pot.

Watering Frequency? #Ficus I adopted this pretty ginseng ficus from HEB 2 weeks ago. My water thermometer says the roots are still wet so I havenāt been watered her since bringing her home. Iāve noticed some of her leaves are yellowing and starting to fall. The plant app says this is a sign of unwatering so Iām confused. Is she adjusting to a new home or should her soil be watered despite the meter reading? She gets a good amount of light on sunny days.

Changed his spot to receive a bit more light, fertilized recently and heās been better than ever before. I absolutely adore this plant. #FicusGinseng #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HappyPlants

What is going on? What are these things? Should I be worried?

Will the leafs come back? They all fell off months ago and I havenāt seen any growth except at the bottom. I know itās winter so could this be part of the problem? #Ficus

Any advice? Iāve had her for a year and see those leaves coming in but theyāre not blooming. She never got much light so I bought a grow light today. #Ficus

What is that package taped to the tree? Is that simply for shipping or is it plant food? #Ficus

What other plant parents say
I love my bonsai; however, it is a little picky and difficult to care for. When I first got it, it came in a plastic pot which seemed to work fine but I always repot my plants in terracotta pots so after a month or so I did! It worked charms and was doing really well and was SUPER lush and fullā¦ Then out of nowhere it started dropping leaves and browning rapidly. It was losing 20 ish leaves a day and eventually it only had about 10 leaves left. I was super bummed and thought I killed it, but I placed it next to a growing light in hopes that would help, which is did!! Not only has it made a comeback, but it is now thriving. Ficus ginseng are tricky little guys, but worth it.
Iām going to admit Iām not the best plant parent at times and often I forget to water my ficus : ( But, he always powers through and continues to grow and prosper. As long as your little buddy is getting lots of sunlight heās a survivor and super easy to care for!
I got this little guy recently bc I love the feature on the trunk that reminds me of an elfin face. Itās easy to care for, & a nice bonsai. I plan to let grow for awhile & then style it as a bonsai in s few years. I would absolutely recommend this as for anyone, as it is easy to keep happy inside year round.
