This week’s throwback is another photo from the series of Gozo walks two winters ago. Unusually for me, this photo features a striking red-flowered plant as much as it does the Gozo cliffs and coastline. I don’t think I had seen this particular flower in the wild before, but after a little research, assuming I identified it correctly as Chasmanthe floribunda, I found that this plant grows rather frequently on these islands. It is an alien import from South Africa, which has spread and now grows wild. (Details on this plant in Malta can be found as usual on Malta Wild Plants.)
