Introduced annual forb to 1m tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, with a sheath at the base. Leaves 1-5cm long, 2-15mm wide, hairless, margins flat or slightly wavy, tips pointed. Flowers sometimes small (less than 3mm across), with 5 'petals' joined at the base, pinkish green, in clusters of 1-3, sometimes raceme -like along the leafless part of the stems.
