Sagina subulata 'Pearlwort'
Pot Size: 5.25 Inch Square Pot
- An easy, very low-growing groundcover
- Minute white flowers provide a nice contrast against the green mossy foliage
- Great between patio pavers, on paths, or in fairy gardens
Irish Moss has a nice soft texture making it a great choice for areas with moderate foot traffic. It has tiny white flowers that cover the foliage in late spring through summer. The foliage is bright green and very small. It forms a dense mat that spreads quickly and easily. Great under other plants in containers, or an excellent ground cover that is low maintenance and deer resistant. Probably the smallest plant we grow!
Uses: Cottage Gardens, Groundcover, Paths, Rock Gardens
Critter Resistance: Deer
Notable Features: Evergreen in mild climates; Withstands some foot traffic
Growth Habit: Spreading
Homeowner Growing Tips: Grow in full sun to dappled shade in the North; in hot Southern climates, provide afternoon shade or light shade all day. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Avoid hot, dry conditions. Plant 6" - 10" apart, or closer to fill in faster. Will spread by creeping, as well as by seed. May look ragged in the heat of summer, but will revive as temperatures cool in autumn.
