Rounded Noon-flower is a perennial succulent groundcover of semi-saline locations including our coastal cliff faces but also at the mouths of creeks and in coastal saltmarsh such as Karraff wetlands. In those locations it can form extensive mats using its ability to root at leaf nodes.
Leaves are almost cylindrical and can vary in colour from dark green to red through to purple depending on moisture and levels of salt.
Flowers are a striking mauve with white centre and most spectacular when seen in large colonies over spring and summer- and best from about midday when the flowers fully open. At this time large areas can be a mixture of mauve, green and red.
Whilst this plant tolerates dry conditions, it thrives in damp, heavy soils.
