Distinguishing Characteristics:

  • Seven gill slits
  • Rounded snout, with small eyes
  • Single dorsal fin
  • Color silvery gray to reddish-brown, with dark spots on the dorsal surface; whitish below

Habitat: From close inshore, including bays and estuaries, out to a depth of at least 440 feet; prefers rocky bottom habitats

Size: Up to 9.8 feet
