Don’t worry this isn’t a blog about the Aussie soap opera of which Angel was my favourite, nope this is a blog about Viva AquaWave lure products.
Whether fishing at home in the UK or on an angling adventure abroad, I wonder what you look for in your lure fishing choices?
Not everyone is necessarily concerned with trophy fish. Indeed, just to be catching fish of any size, from a multitude of different species can be extremely fun and I’d say for fishing on your foreign holidays, rock fishing pretty much guarantees you some fish-filled holiday snaps.
Whether at home or away, I am fast realising that I want lures with a specific set of qualities to meet the demands of aggressive reef and rock fish. Sure, I have used and do use expensive soft, heavily scented lures, but often these last for two fish at the most. They are useful in coloured water of on difficult days, but they do not always offer the best for your money in terms of cost effectiveness. This is where the awesome AquaWave products really come in to their own.
Firstly the AquaWave lures come in an awesome range of colours from very natural looking to very bright, something to meet every light condition and clarity of water we might encounter, both in the UK and on holiday abroad. From silt-stained Welsh gullies to crystal clear mediterranean reefs, Aquawave products cope with most of it.
Secondly, there is a range of types and profiles suited to different styles; such as the “Straight”, which I like for Caro rigs; the “Spark 40” for dart head jigs and a kind of “Wind” style retrieve; the Ami shrimps for dropshot and jig head and the shads for a nice swimming action. All these bases are covered and tailor to the wide range of species and habits you might come across.
Thirdly, the material these lures are made from, is a really buoyant material and the Straights for instance look superb in the water, even on just a jig head. Because of the buoyancy, they can really look like a small worm or eel burrowing in the sand with its tail up nice and high, just inviting predatory fish to bite or suck them up for an easy meal.
The material is also super stretchy and therefore durable, this is a pretty essential quality but perhaps even more so when Rockfishing abroad. Just about everything I’ve encountered wants to ruin your lures! Pufferfish, Bream, Grouper, Lizard fish and so on, all have pretty deadly teeth! Most lures will not last long, especially amongst the tail nippers! Countless times I have to change other lures due to tails being bitten off or chunks taken out of the side, where as AquaWave products last and just keep on catching fish.
Lastly and of particular note would be the AquaWave Jig heads. Both the “Lockhead” with its lure retainer and darting action and the “Rockbait” jig head are super reliable. They come in a range of weights and hook sizes to suite various situations and species, not to mention they are sharp and strong too!
They give me great confidence in those moments when you hook a bonus fish, that you most definitely want too hook and hold!
AquaWave products really are a great choice for your domestic or foreign rockfish adventures. Reliable and effective both home and away, don’t leave home without them!
