AMD confirms to TechPowerUP that Navi 23 GPU features 64 ROPs

Navi 23 GPU specs are almost fully complete.

Although AMD announced as many as three Navi 23 products already, none of them has shipped to customers yet. That’s despite AMD claiming that Radeon RX 6600M is shipping now, although no drivers were released for this SKU.

The announcement of the Radeon PRO W6600 provided information on transistor count as well as the die size of the Navi 23 GPU. This is the same GPU that is now being used in Tesla’s new infotainment system. For this reason, this processor could become one of the most popular RDNA2 GPUs in the coming months, that’s of course after Xbox and PS5 RDNA2 chips.

Navi 23 GPU features up to 32 Compute Units, but so far none of the products released had more than 28, although the specs of Tesla’s GPU are not officially confirmed. Both the mobile Radeon RX 6600M as well as a desktop and mobile workstation Radeon PRO W6600(M) feature 1792 Stream Processors. With that in mind, 10 TFLOPs of FP32 compute power is already impressive enough because it means those GPUs peak at 2.9 GHz within 90-100W TDP.

While we eagerly await the launch of desktop gaming Radeon RX 6600 XT and RX 6600 graphics cards, AMD clarified one more detail on this GPU. It appears that the Navi 23 has indeed 64 ROPs, not 32 as reported by some media (including us) and even TechPowerUP GPU-Z software. The creator of the tool and TPU’s Editor-In-Chief “W1zzard” reached out to AMD for clarification, which ultimately provided confirmation on 64 ROPs on Navi 23, the same number of raster operating units as Navi 22.

AMD Navi 23 GPU launch has clearly encountered some delays, with no drivers and public access to this GPU, we are only focusing on what is being reported by other media and leakers. Hopefully, though AMD will soon lift the curtain on its RX 6600XT graphics card, which should provide all the missing details, including the actual gaming potential and power efficiency.
