Tub gurnard

Tub gurnard

The tub gurnard is a fish which is similar in appearance to a large mullet and is caught all year round.
Scientific description: Trigla Lucerna
The tub gurnard lives in waters which are characterized by muddy or sandy bottoms and are found around the rocks near the coast. The tub gurnards caught in the Adriatic Sea are generally larger than those found in other seas in the Mediterranean area. This species of fish is caught exclusively using a trotline although sometimes some people prefer to use the bottom-fishing technique. On average the tub gurnard can reach a maximum length of seventy centimetres although commercially-caught fish are frequently smaller specimens having dimensions of between 40 and 50 centimetres.
The meat of the tub gurnard is very rich minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium.
