Foliage: alternate, simple, linear, deciduous to semi-evergreen with entire margins

silvery below and dull green above
Flower: perfect, whitish to yellow and slightly fragrant flowers
Bloom Period: late Spring
Fruit: scaly, edible achene in late Summer
Bark: brown on older trees

can have ridges and furrows, may be thorny

Water: very drought-tolerant

grows best in dry soils and climates

Maintenance: usually a multi-trunked small tree, but can be kept small by shearing
