25 Tree Spinach Seeds - Chenopodium Giganteum
aka Giant Goosefoot, Magenta Spreen
Very easy & fast growing versatile variety of Spinach.
Tree Spinach is an edible annual apple green leafed variety with
tiny yellow/green flowers & arrow shaped bright magenta purple
centre rosettes making this a striking addition to your salads or
cooked as you would any other spinach or chard.
When cooked it has a slight hint of asparagus flavouring & keeps
the magenta colour when cooked.
If you keep picking the tasty & tender leaves, it will continue to
produce until mid Autumn.
Harvest August to thru October.
Best when leaves are picked young as when left to mature into large
leaves, they are more course.
The seeds are edible as well and often ground into flour.
Average height of 5 to 7 feet with a 12 to 18 inch spread & will need
more room than other Spinach varieties.
Baby leaves 30 days, mature leaves 55 days.
To aid germination, soak seeds in cool water for up to 24 hours prior to
planting
Sow 1/4 inch deep in moist soil
Germination in 7 to 14 days
Best to plant seedlings after frost risk until established then fully
frost hardy.
Sow in rows 12 inches between rows & 6 inches apart for seedlings.
Spinach will grow back after cutting as long as the growing point is
not damaged during the initial harvest and if the weather is still cool,
will most likely regrow for 2 or more harvests.
Leaves should regenerate for a additional harvests within several weeks
after 1st cutting with cutting from the outside leaves first for the central
crown to grow on for the longest possible harvest.
