A tropical, evergreen tree with large, shiny dark green leaves that are rusty brown and hairy underneath. When mature it can spread very broadly, producing areal roots and a huge, buttressed trunk.
It produces yellow fruits that attract birds and bats. Most often seen in large landscapes as shade trees.
It is definitely too large for most domestic gardens, but it can be grown potted and does make an interesting bonsai specimen.
