- Make sure all parts are dry before re-assembling.
- If you notice any mold — check the area that holds the filter, especially — wipe it down with a mix of one teaspoon white vinegar and one cup of water.
And while you're at it, it might be good idea to just get a new pitcher altogether. "The pitcher itself doesn't have a specific shelf-life so it's up to you to use proper judgement," suggests Betty Gold, Senior Editor and Product Analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute's Kitchen Appliances & Technology Lab. "But if it breaks, cracks or no longer filters water properly, it should be replaced."
