Appearance
Ampelodesmos mauritanicus is a robust, perennial, rhizomatous herbaceous plant that can reach 2 to 3 m in height. The species is a geophyte with short rhizomes and is strongly caespitose. The leaves are rough to the touch, the ligule is membranous, lanceolate and with a ciliated edge. The inflorescence is a panicle of spikelets of 2 to 5 flowers. The slightly uneven glumes are often reddish. The glumellae have hairs.Distribution
