This Giraffe hates Wind A Giraffe in African Savannah was feeding on acacia trees. It was a thick vegetation, the Giraffe did not stand in one place and munch everything. It munched on one tree and skipped the nearby trees. It further walked 100 yards and munched on the distant tree. Was it the Giraffe's version of 12-hour fasting? No This observation proved TREES CAN SPEAK. Strange? Read on... Trees communicate. Not by sound. They use scent to communicate with other trees. Just like we use perfumes to attract or make a statement. Every time the Giraffe munched the Acacia leaf, the tree started pumping toxic substances into the leaves. Making it less tastier for the Giraffe to eat. Not just that, the tree emitted ethylene gas to warn the nearby trees. The giraffe has to walk against the wind, a few yards. It needs to find a tree that hasn't got the smell signal yet. Thus they exist and nature designed them to co-exist. The world around us is super intelligent. We are just trying to comprehend it. Will we be polite after we comprehend it? Or try to overpower it? #PlanetActionNow >> "Inspiration from book - The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleneb" #lifeoftrees #biodiversity #forest #gardening #teamwork #defense

🦈 During our tour at the local fish market, we saw one of the species of sharks that can be found locally. A piece of paper with the name "Murruna" was placed next to it. ~ 🎣According to the European Commission, the commercial designation "Murruna" refers to the Bluntnose sixgill shark. This shark is normally consumed by locals, while it's not considered of value in other countries. ~ 🌊 The Bluntnose sixgill shark, Hexanchus griseus, is a deep water shark that can be found between 200 and 1100 meters of depth. It can be fished with industrial and artisanal demersal trawling, gillnets, longlines, and more. ~ 🔻It is globally assessed as Near Threatened according to the IUCN Redlist. ~ ➡️ Would you like to know more about sharks and how to recognize them? Mangrove crab, mud crab, or just a crab? What's in a name? In the Philippines, Government and industry got together and officially changed the name of Scylla spp. from the Mud Crab to the Mangrove Crab a while ago; a name that from their perspective better reflects the crab's major habitat and may be a better common name from a marketing perspective. If nothing else, if the name can help with efforts to preserve and replant mangrove forests that have suffered destruction from either man made, or natural disasters, that would be great. Without healthy mangrove forests there won't be many Mangrove Crabs in the wild, that's for sure. In Australia, the 'muddy' is unlikely to change its colloquial name, but in China - the main market for Scylla, they are just referred to as crabs, sometimes with a colour, reflecting their species, or origin. In the trade Scylla spp. is instantly recognisable, understood and always in high demand, outstripping supply. In the picture below you can see a very muddy, mud crab from Fiji (7 years ago) - our team had missed it during the previous day's harvest and I had to slide into the pond to pull it out of the drying mud at the bottom of the pond, when I saw in peeking out. I could appreciate your help. I'm trying to compile a list of all the local, common names for Scylla spp. from Saudi Arabia to Hawaii, South Africa to China, Sri Lanka to Southern Japan, Pakistan to Samoa, Mauritius to Bangladesh, Vietnam to Kenya. If you can share the local name for Scylla, mangrove, or mud crabs from your region, country or province in the comments section, I'd greatly appreciate it. At present we have 4 species recognised by the Scientific community, Scylla serrata, S. tranquebarica, S. paramamosain and Scylla olivacea - if you have local names for each species - even better! Thanks. #scylla #fisheries #aquaculture #resorcemanagement #crustaceans #crabs #aquaculture #mangrovecrab #mangroves #mudcrab #nature #coastalprotection #coastalresilience

"My heart found its home long ago in the beauty, mystery, order and disorder of the flowering earth." - Lady Bird Johnson Former first lady, Lady Bird Johnson had a vision to make the world better by planting and preserving wildflowers and native plants. She initiated the largest planting of daffodil bulbs in history, and founded the National Wildflower Research Center in 1982. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin is a botanical garden, a hiking trail, and a research center dedicated to her legacy. Growing wildflowers is an excellent way to welcome wildlife such as pollinators to your garden. Thinking about planting your own wildflower garden? Planting wildflowers from seed is a simple and cost-effective method to get started. Check out The Tilted Whale wildflower seed mixes at www.thetiltedwhale.com #thetiltedwhalegardens
