October 2023 - Flattened worm? 🐛 . Slithering across the sandy bottom, this is the Persian Carpet Flatworm (Pseudobiceros bedfordi). It is one of the prettiest flatworm species found in Singapore waters, with its very rich pattern. When it glides along the seabed, it appears to be shimmering with the numerous white spots! . This flatworm is more often encountered in the deeper waters by recreational divers, but sometimes observed in the intertidal reefs off the Southern Islands. It can grow up to 8 to 10 cm long! . Did you know that this delicate-looking animal is a voracious carnivore? It feeds on ascidians (or sea squirts), shellfish, and small crabs! It eats by secreting enzymes to digest the tissues and suck its prey dry! .
