Rumex crispus x obtusifolius = R. x pratensis

A hybrid between Rumex crispus and Rumex obtusifolius. It shows hybrid vigour, so is much larger than either parent.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required. It is best recorded when well developed so that the overall size of the plant can be ascertained. Any record should include a note of the plant size and the identifying characters.

It is found in fields and waste places, in pastures, by roadsides, on river banks and on other disturbed ground, sometimes in the absence of either parent.

In flower from June to September.

Perennial, but much less fertile than the parents.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain, though often under recorded as many recorders are not familiar with the hybrid. It is the commonest Rumex hybrid in Europe.

It seems to be fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland where the two parent species occur together, but was poorly recorded in the past.
