University of Malta has 11,280 students
● Majority of new entrants are women
There are currently 11,280 stu- dents at the University of Malta, of which 8,733 are full-time students, while 2,547 are part-time.
Replying to a parliamentary question by government whip Byron Camilleri, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said 3,901 of these students are new to the university. Almost two-thirds – 2,299 – of the new entrants are female, while there were 1,602 new male students.
The Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy has seen the largest influx of students (576) followed by the Faculty of Arts (423).
The Faculty of Laws, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and the Faculty for the Built Environment have seen 354, 249, and 240 new entrants respectively.
Of the latter four, only the Faculty for the Built Environment has seen more new males entrants than female.
On the other hand, the Mediterranean Institute and the Institute for Physical Education and Sport have seen the lowest intake of students (2).
With regard to the Junior College, there are currently 1,890 students (1,059 in their first year and 831 in their second); of these, 925 were new. At Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary there are 1,818 students.
