A large, fast growing, pine-like tree native to eastern New South Wales and Queensland, Australia with thin, needlelike and nearly leafless green branches. It can be grown in most warm temperate and tropical climates in USDA Zones 9 to 11. It is extremely wind and salt resistant, can be grown with full coastal exposure and provides a very valuable windbreak. The heavy and extremely hard wood makes excellent firewood but is not particularly useful for much else. Plants are easily grown from seeds. In some countries it is considered an invasive weed as it can outcompete native plant communities.
