Appearance

Bruxish is a small, colorful Pokemon that resembles a triggerfish, the state fish of Hawaii. Most of Bruxish’s body is yellow but it has colorful blue, pink and purple scales throughout its body. While it is idly swimming, you can see a large number of pointed teeth in Bruxish’s mouth. There is a small horn-like appendage coming out of Bruxish’s head which is where its psychic powers come from. Bruxish is a small Pokemon at only 2 feet and 11 inches, or 0.9 meters, tall.

Behavior

In the wild, Bruxish will bury itself into the seafloor and wait in ambush. It leaves the growth on its head above the ground to act as a kind of radar for potential prey. When Bruxish detects prey, like a Shellder or a Mareanie, Bruxish can use its psychic powers to cause awful headaches and disorient its prey. The sound of its gnashing teeth is enough to send any nearby Pokemon fleeing. The Pokedex mentions that lifeguards in the Alola region will allow Bruxish to remain, as they can scare away much more dangerous water type Pokemon.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As a standalone Pokemon, Bruxish can present a threatening presence in battle. It has balanced defensive stats with a high physical attack and speed which means that Bruxish can function as a menacing offensive Pokemon. It can also come with the ability Strong Jaw, which makes all of its bite-type moves deal 1.5x damage. As a dual type water and psychic Pokemon, Bruxish takes 2x damage from bug, ghost, grass, electric, and dark type moves. It is immune to no types but will resist fighting, steel, fire, water, psychic, and ice type moves.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, Bruxish can function as a powerful offensive Pokemon. While it is not rated highly on competitive tier lists, it can still be an imposing Pokemon. With Bruxish’s Strong Jaw ability, as well as access to Swords, Bruxish can quickly become a threat. A Life Orb, as a held item, can ensure that a damaging move from Bruxish is more likely to one-hit knock out your opponent’s Pokemon.

Consider running Swords Dance, Psychic Fangs, Aqua Jet, and Crunch/Liquidation as this set is aimed to be as offensive as possible. Setup Bruxish’s stats with Swords Dance and use Psychic Fangs and Aqua Jet to take down your opponents. You can pick between Crunch or Liquidation if you want to counter ghost type Pokemon or deal with defensive Pokemon easier.

How to Catch Bruxish in Pokemon Go

Unfortunately, Bruxish is currently unobtainable in Pokemon Go. The developers are currently releasing generation six Pokemon, so the generation seven Pokemon should be soon after. The majority of the Pokemon from the Alola region have yet to be added to Pokemon Go, though it will certainly join the roster eventually. As a water and psychic type Pokemon, it will likely be found near docks, harbors, canals, lakes, rivers, oceans, and other watery areas. Until it is released we will not know for sure if Bruxish can be hatched from eggs or if it can be found in raid battles at Pokemon Gyms.
