Gaston Grognon tells the story of a grumpy monkey who wakes up one morning and has a negative attitude about everything. None of his friends can figure out why he is feeling this way, and neither can he. The story shares the relatable tale of not always feeling 100% and that's okay. This is an amazing French social-emotional learning activity to discuss feelings with your students.

They make for great sub plans or substitute lessons as they are NO PREP and easy to implement. They are also amazing for planning out your reading block for an ENTIRE WEEK. There is just so much included, that you can (and are encouraged to) revisit the book every day and work on the various activities throughout a week of French reading centres and instruction.
Interactive read-alouds should be harder in difficulty than where students are reading independently, as the scaffolding and whole-group extensions allow students to dive deeper into their own understanding!
