No RX490 then? And RX580 will just be another re-branded RX480 from the looks of specs, which is a re-branded R9 390, which is a re-branded R9 290X. So 10 % performance increase in 3 generations from R9 290X to RX580? AMD you have got to be kidding me...

I'm pretty sure that these are just place holders, just by looking at the clocks... Rx480 (Polaris 10) is not the same as the R9 390 (Hawaii). Also the R9 390 is a cut down Hawaii and the R9 290x is the full Hawaii xt. Also the Rx480 is a mid tier product while the 290x was a top end product. Fury X is faster than all of the cards you mentioned. It would be the same as comparing the GTX 980 to the GTX 1060 and claiming that the GTX1060 was a re-branded 980.

A single Vega card ? Must be Vega 10 I presume , maybe AMD will be releasing a Fury X kind of card featuring 16GB HMB2 and a fully unlocked Vega 11. Then again this could very well be Vega 11 and they'll release a cheaper cut down version like the Fury.

Or maybe none of this since this doesn't coincide with all the info that we got since mid 2016 regarding the supposed 2 variants. It is kind of strange that all the official info AMD gave never implies that there will be 2 different cards.

RX 480 is not a rebranded R9 390. RX480 has way narrower memory bus and less of everything on rendering side and yet it performs the same.

There's another "new" one that's been added to the list since this thread was started. And, although it appears to not be a direct rebrand, it looks spectacularly unexciting.

The Polaris 12/Baffin XT based RX 550.

Nope sorry you see rx480 is a new node 14nm and a refined arch a 390 is 28nm , the 480 is 14nm lpe low power early node ,the 580 is lpp so 5hey are not rebrands and will sell beside some 480s

I beg to differ. Same GPU, same configuration(Shaders/TMUs/ROPs), only under a different name...is a rebrand. LPE vs. LPP, using a different GPU variant, or even having different stock clock speeds doesn't count. They are still essentially the same thing.

If not then my R9 280X is not a rebranded HD 7970 GHz because it's Tahiti XTL(low power Tahiti XT variant). Not Tahiti XT2. Even though everything else is exactly the same as the HD 7970 GHz.

Just calling your self a very genius doesn't mean you're right ,read up they are not the same, evolution yes but not the same , rebrands are same card different badge and box like 7970 -280x or 290x-390x which were rebrands
By your maths a lot of cards are the Same?

I'd say R9 290X + 390X are 99,9% the same, although Ram clocks are higher (1250 MHz -> 1500 MHz which helps) and GPU clocks a tad as well. Generally R9 390X is 5-10% faster than 290X, but it's essentially the same just with higher clocks.

RX 480 vs. 580 should be the same, just higher clocks - but I doubt they will increase Ram clocks this time, I didn't hear of any GDDR5 spec'ed higher than 2000MHz, though it would certainly help a lot.

Not talking about the cooling here, obviously the R9 390X custom cards are better than most 290X custom cards (I don't care about the AMD ref...).

Looks like vega will be 2x 470 to 2x 480 on a single die. That may mean she has crossfire 480s In the fall when I give her mine to go with hers.

Checking the specs of a Fury X, they are exactly the same as Vega, but actually has 1050mhz as it's base clock and Vega only 1000mhz. I feel like something isn't right with this info. I will keep my reservations until we get some confirmation.

Vega 10 will use a totally different iteration of GCN (AMD is calling their CU's NCU's now iirc) compared to Polaris 10 and Fiji XT. Polaris 10 GCN is also not the same as Fiji XT. Saying that Vega 10 is the same as 2*RX470 is not correct, not the same uarch, and the scaling is not linear either, also the clock speeds are different.

alright! what is this all about! :3

okay so the 500 series up starting at 560 will be direct rebrands according to device ids that they have, 480 is 580 etc... the specs on core clock and memory will be different... that's about it maybe a more efficient chip, but that's all speculation

You know, for someone not really bothering with Ati GPUs, this can all be so --needlessly- confusing. Why oh why would they make this so convoluted?

Partly all the rebrands, partly the 1034957352 different models, partly some cards existing but not always listed (say the Dual Pro or whatever its name is), can get really confusing pretty damn fast :)

Sure, to most here this may sound odd ("but don't you know that.."), but trust me, it is. I'd focus a bit more on that were i in their shoes, and a bit less on whether the newer ones are 57 or 67 Hz faster.

Twas a jest. I never purchase without a proper board partner review and was making a ref to other threads on the subject. It was late and my funny meter was acting up. Ha ha?
