Description

Feathery leaves in a whorl below the flowers.

It is related to Nigella sativa, a spice called ‘nigella’ or ‘black cumin’, used in Indian cuisine. The essential oil distilled from Nigella sativa is used in lipsticks and perfumery.

The blue or white part of the plant are the sepals, not the petals, the actual petals are tiny, at the base of the stamens.
