Light’s, camera, action!Imagine filming a movie without the hassle of getting hard-to-obtain permits and dealing with everyday crowds.That’s now a reality for SCAD students as they have access to their very own one-of-a-kind set. A barber shop, bar, boutique, hardware store, and a café.“It’s amazing, you guys. I mean, I get hungry every time I walk in here. I’m not going to lie. It can be re-dressed for so many things," said Reeve-Rab.Not only that, but the time period in which you're shooting can be easily adjusted as well.“I can bring in a horse. I can throw some hay down on the street and a little dirt. I bring out the lady in the big hoop skirt, and I’m off to war," said DW Moffett, Chair of Film and Television in the school of film and acting at SCAD.The 11-acre backlot is one-of-a-kind, and it’s not just for students.SCAD hopes the space will also attract Hollywood.“The caveat that you need a student crew that’s going to be working with you, alongside of you. Because it’s all about our students," said Reeve-Rab.And no matter what a student’s major is, from acting to directing, to design and everything in between, this new studio allows everyone to get real-life, hands-on experience.“The mandate is to bring Hollywood in. Because that’s how you learn. You learn by doing. And if you’re learning by doing with the best professionals, you’re learning at the best level," Moffett said. The Savannah street is only phase one of the project.Phase two will include a New York City scape and a back-to-the-future Times Square.It’s expected to be fully operational in 18 months.
